Post subject: Chronicles of Rael monsters
This is a list of species for the RPG I will start programming later this year: Chronicles of Rael. It will be a game set in the early part of Genesis that will feature angels, demons, and other creatures.

Ancient Half-Demons
*******************
These are creatures who were bred by evil angels before the Fall of Lucifer. These were the angels' first attempts to corrupts God's creations. Though some may be found in Hell, many of these humanoids still wander the Earth.

Most of these creatures form tribes.

Bucca - A bucca is a goblin-like monkey that has been twisted by demonic power. Bucca are weak and stupid but are far more numerous than other demons. Buccas begin life as males, but those who survive long enough become queen buccas. Queen buccas constanty spawn young buccas without any need for sex. During battle, queen buccas spawn buccas far more rapidly.

Irogura - An irogura is a specially trained gorgura whose bones and skin have been infused with metal. Irogura also have spiked tails and an enhanced regenerative ability. They are difficult to control and often wander aimlessly, killing anything they encounter. Since irogura can't be organized effectively, they often act only in small groups.

Gorgura - Gorguras are gorillas who are imbued with demonic influence. They are smaller than living gorillas but are slightly more intelligent and can use weapons. All gorgura have bat-like wings. They are living creatures but are only bred in Hell.

Kappa - Kappa are a demonic cross between turtles and apes. They are ape-like but have turtle shells and little hair. When a kappa egg hatches, the top of its head is ritually cut off, its brain is removed, and it's head is filled with water. This leaves the demon possessing the kappa's body in full control. Kappa have powerful water magic. Kappa that have killed enough enemies go through a metamorphoses where they become larger and grow spikes. Some kappa were left on Earth when the demons were originally driven back to Hell.

Waspian - Waspians were the fallen angels' first successful experiment with flying troops. They are a cross between apes and wasps. They have 2 arms, 4 legs, and 2 wings. They have a level of intelligence roughly equal to apes. They live primarily off of carrion and can even consume the flesh of demons without becoming ill (they're highly resistant to poison). Though waspians are too stupid to be used as soldiers, the demons have released them on Earth so that they can wreak havoc.

Angels
******
Angels look like winged humans. In actuallity, they are a bit different. Their bones are much lighter, and they don't tend to be as muscular. Angels have much more refined digestive systems than humans and only drink liquids. They require liquids with a high sugar content due to their high metabolisms.

Unless otherwise noted, angels have 2 feathered wings on their backs (it is primarily the higher ranking angels who are different).

Fallen Angel - These are angels that were imprisoned in hell for having some particular vice and committing a related crime. Fallen angels are the rulers of Hell. They use their demonic power to warp objects or corpses to turn them into demons. Any type of angel may become a fallen angel.

First Sphere:

Cherubim - Cherubim are the officers of the angel armies. They can manifest any of four different faces: ox (the "true" face), man, lion, and eagle. They have 8 conjoined wings on their back, forming 2 "X" patterns. They also have the hooves of oxes, regardless of the face they're manifesting.

Ophanim - Ophanim look like wheels within wheels covered with hundreds of eyes. They report directly to God, allowing Her to see everywhere.

Seraphim - Seraphim are beautiful angels who serve in God's court and continuously sing his praises. They have 2 colored wings on their backs. They also have 2 winglike membranes that can over their faces completely (preventing damage to their heads) and 2 more winglike membranes covering their feet. Seraphim possess the most powerful magic of any type of angel.

Second Sphere:

Dominion - Dominions are the leaders of the second sphere angels and report to the first sphere angels. Their purpose is to manage the efforts of the lower ranking angels. Dominions are armed with scepters or swords which they can use to expel orbs of light at will.

Principality - Principalities carry out the orders of the dominions. Principalities wear crowns and are armed with scepters.

Virtue - Each virtue is a paragon of one particular virtue, such as strength, hope, or courage. Virtues operate independently of the dominions and report to the ophanim. The fallen alternative to a virtue is called a vice.

Third Sphere:

Angel - These are the lowest ranking angels. Messengers are typically of this type, but angels are used for many different tasks.

Archangel - Archangels are the highest ranking angels of the third sphere. They are the guardians of entire nations. Though they may lead angels in battle, they aren't otherwise responsible for the other third sphere angels.

Power - Some powers are warrior angels armed with swords. Others are responsible for research. The angels of birth and death are both powers.

Children of Asmodeus (Lust)
********************
These half-demons are descended from Asmodeus, the Vice of Lust.

Coelacaman - These creatures are half-human and half-coelacanth. They are hideous fish men who were created by shargora to forage on land. They are fairly stupid but very strong.

Drakman - Half-human, half-drake. These creatures are much like lizardmen, but they are more powerful and have wings. Drakmen have to consume massive amounts of food, and many starve to death during famines. Drakmen are extremely stupid. These two factors together are causing drakmen to die out.

Lizardman - Reptilian humanoid. Lizardmen are often as intelligent as humans but have not yet progressed beyond the stage of primitive agriculture and barbarianism. They are believed to have evolved from drakmen. Though weaker and lacking wings, lizardmen are smarter than drakmen and do not have their metabolic requirements.

Satyr - A satyr is a short man with the legs and horns of a goat. They are filled with lust and spend most of their time raping dryads.

Shargora - This is the result of Asmodeus dallyings with sharks. These creatures are intelligent sharks with stubby legs that allow them to move on land. They used their magic to create the coelacaman by crossing a human and a coelacanth. Shargora send coelacamen to shore to forage for food.

Children of Beelzebub (Gluttony)
*********************
Flesheater (undead) - This is merely a vampyr who has weakened so far that they can never recover.

Shadow (undead) - This is a shadow traded away to demons by its owner. Shadows don't have any physical substance but can damage any living thing simply by touching it. They are unable to affect non-living things. Shadows are nearly invisible except in bright light. They are resistant to all kinds of physical attacks.

Vampyr (undead) - A vampyr eats the flesh of dead. For every freshly killed corpse it eats, the vampyr becomes stronger and looks more human. Strong vampyrs can masquerade as the living. Weak ones are ravening beasts. A vampyr must eat at least one corpse a week or become a weaker. As vampyrs age, they develop magical capabilities. Vampyrs are humans who traded their shadows to demons and then died.

Vorlock - Vorlocks look like human females with bat wings, pointed ears, long canine teeth, and long fingernails. Many have a few other minor demon characteristics. Vorlocks have all the abilites a vampyr can learn. Vorlocks trade power to mortals in exchange for their shadows. The vorlock uses these shadows to build their own private armies of shadows, and the humans become vampyrs when they die. Vorlocks have been known to mate with humans, in which case the offspring is human.

Witch - A witch is a human female who mated with Beelzebub to gain magical powers. These matings produce vorlocks. They can fly, shapeshift, and use mind-affecting spells.

Children of Lilith (Envy)
******************
These half-demons are descended from Lilith's couplings with strange creatures. They are often evil, but they often fight other half-demons.

Drelg - The drelg are the result of Lilith's mating with ooze demons. These creatures look completely human, but are made of ooze. Drelg have two forms - one male and one female (both human). In male form, drelg are able to recover from almost any wound. In female form, drelg can form a weaker copy of themselves. This copy will have a male and female form, both different from those of its creator. If the copy is made in the presence of a human, that human's appearance will be one of the drelg's forms! Making this copy weakens the female (HP and SP are split between the two), but it can be reabsorbed. This copy will its creator. If killed, the copy will rise again as a new drelg, independant of its creator (but no longer capable of self-ressurection). Drelg are often employed to kill important individuals and replace them.

Dryad - A dryad is half-tree and half-human. Dryads have a 28-day cycle that is linked to the moon. At the beginning of this cycle, a dryad looks like a beautiful human with pointed ears and green hair. As the cycle continues, the dryad's skin gets thicker and turns to bark. At the middle of the cycle, the dryad looks as much like a tree as a person. Then the dryad's skin gets thinner, and she becomes human again. Though they have powerful powers of persuasion, they can do little but flee violent encounters. Dryads typically mate with satyrs, but they have been known to reproduce with humans.

Gnome - A gnome is the result of a dryad mating with a pygmy. This has happened often enough that gnomes have become their own species. Due to inbreeding, gnomes have actually become smaller than pygmies. They are roughly 1 cubit tall (1.5 feet). These creatures are bitter and angry. They use spears, darts, and magic to attack any larger creature they encounter.

Incubus - See Succubus.

Succubus - A succubus is a firey creature who has the ability to shapeshift into any form. They use this ability to appear as an attractive human female. They then mate with a human male. After mating with a male, the succubus takes the appearance of a human male and mates with a human female. When appearing as a male, the succubus is called an incubus. The incubus impregnates the human female with the human male's semen but taints it with demonic influence. In some cases, the resulting offspring is relatively normal, but, in others, it's a cambion. In a few rare cases, female cambion become succubi at adulthood.

Children of Mammon (Greed)
******************
Aurochs - An aurochs is an ancient kind of violent ox. Mammon has a herd of them in Hell for breeding stock.

Minoch - The minotaur-like combination of man and aurochs. Mammon breeds them from men and aurochs. Minochs always go beserk in battle.

Minotis - This is an advanced form of minoch that has been giving the armor of a preying mantis. They also have the ability to consume any magical spell that is directed against them, gaining HP with each spell cast at them. If their HP every reaches double their maximum, they burst, dying instantly.

Zombie Minoch - Minochs who have been animated as zombies. Zombie minochs are weaker and don't go beserk, but they do cause disease.

Demons
******
Note that true demons don't reproduce with eachother. Instead, they are created by binding damned souls to objects or corpses and imbuing them with demonic power. Most half-demons do reproduce, and some demons can reproduce with the living.

Different demons are immune to different attacks and have different magical abilities. Many demons can summon other demons (usually stronger demons summon weaker, but there are some exceptions).

Bator - Bator look like giant bats with disproportinately small legs. They have horns and tails that they can use to constrict their enemies. Bator are the leaders of the flying demons. Bator can reproduce, but only with vorlocks. The male offspring are bator, and the female offspring are vorlocks.

Bone Demons - These demons are the only demons that can be made out of human skeletons. They look much like undead skeletons but are constantly burning.

Bull God - These demons are humanoid dogs with bull horns. They are worshipped as gods by some evil humans. They eat any humans who don't worship them devoutly enough. Their followers are cannibals who wander the Earth, killing anyone who doesn't convert to their religion. Since followers of the bull god have high casualty rates, their religion doesn't spread quickly, but it does cause alot of pain and suffering.

Caller - Callers are giant brains with small useless arms and no other body parts. They can't move, speak, or fight. Their sole purpose is to communicate telepathically with other callers in order to relay information. Callers can also communicate with feldons and can issue a telepathic call that summons nearby demons for aid.

Crabmon - These are giant crab demons with human heads. Only their heads and limbs that are sticking out of their shells and are vulnerable to attack. Crabmon act as military police among the demon armies and maintain the demon code of conduct (such as it is). Crabmon often work in groups so that they can overpower more powerful demons.

Erinyes - Erinyes, also called Furies, are demons with the power to leave Hell whenever someone is cursed for breaking an oath. When they do this, they subdue the oathbreaker and teleport back to Hell's breeding pits with him/her. There are only a limitted number of Erinyes, but they leave Hell to take the souls of as many oathbreakers as they can.

Feldon - A feldon looks like a giant ant with 4 legs and 2 arms. They also have sharp mandibles that can cut through metal. They are able to wield weapons but must be commanded by callers to be effective in groups. Feldon queens lay feldon eggs, which grow into feldon larvae, which grow into feldon. However, there are no male feldon. The feldon eggs are created when feldon queens eat the souls of the damned.

Foxon - These demons look like humanoid foxes. They serve as scribes and recordkeepers. They are relatively poor fighters, but use poison and are difficult to kill. They are immune to all mind-affecting spells due to their high intelligence.

Hell Hound - A hell hound is a 3-headed dog that breath cold, fire, and lightning simultaneously (one breath weapon from each of 3 heads). Its bite causes disease. Hell hounds typically attack 3 times per turn.

Insect Demon

Judge - Judges are ancient gorguras who have above average intelligence. Millenia of relative leisure have caused them to become too fat to be lifted by their wings. These demons judge souls to determine what to do with them. Evil souls are turned into demons, but good souls are usually consumed - it's too dangerous to put a good soul in a powerful body. Though judges consider themselves to be the most intelligent demons, they aren't. They are smarter than other gorgura, but only slightly smarter than the average human.

Krung - Krung are spontaneously created from large piles of decaying corpses that are common during the battles of Hell. This is a humanoid demon that eats anything organic that it can find. These demons start out as scrawny creatures, but they have 2 more evolved forms. The 2nd form is fat and grows wings. The third form has eaten so much that it has become unable to walk or fly. It can use psychic powers to control lesser Krung, who bring it food.

Mirror Demon - Seems like a regular mirror but can pull people into Hell or gate in Imps at night.

Octaur - Octaurs are centaur-like creatures with the legs of a horse and a torso of octopus tentacles. They have 8 tentacles. They are immune to cold, fire, and water attacks but are vulnerable to electricity.

Ooze Demon - Ooze demons are acidic sludge that slide around. They destroy beautiful things and attack good people.

Predator Demon - These demons have 2 heads: one wolf and one lion. The wolf head faces forwards and the lion head faces backwards. Predators have 4 arms - one on the front, one in the back, and one on either side. The 2 heads hate eachother but can do little about it. Demon lords often employ predator demons as guards.

Quadrus - A quadrus is created by combining four bone demons and providing them with flesh from various still-living creatures. It is said that they are constructed by Satan himself. A quadrus has 4 heads (one facing in each direction so that a quadrus is never surprised) and 8 arms, but only 3 legs. They also have dragon-like wings and various kinds of tails. They serve as minor officers in the demon armies.

Rattus - A rattus is a humanoid rat, but it is a full demon. The ratti are relatively weak but spread disease with their bites. Though Ratti reproduce, the result is only a regular rat. As such, rats are not animals, but actually creatures descended from demons.

Simner - A simner is a spherical ball demon with short tentacles and a sharp beak. Though they can attack nearby enemies with their beaks, their attacks are neither accurate nor effective. A simner's true power comes from its ability to summon demons. Each simner can summon a few specific kinds of demons. During combat, it will summon demons so long as often as it is able to. A simner's mana regenerates so that it can summon demons fairly often.

Spider Mistress - These demonic spiders are giant poisonous spiders with 4 legs and 4 arms, but they can use illusion to appear as whatever they like. They often appear as attractive maidens. They reproduce by crippling another spider mistress and laying their eggs inside her. When the eggs hatch, they eat their way out, killing their infested parent. The offspring all serve their surviving parent with complete obedience until her death. Spider Mistresses are concerned only with producing offspring, not with fighting against Heaven.

Stink Demon - These demons look like giant hairy balls with arms, legs, and head. They're vaguely humanoid. They wander around, attacking anything they come across. They are capable of breathing clouds of poisonous gas.

Thorn Demon - These scaled demons are covered with thorns and have barbed tails that they slash their enemies with.

Demonic Fiends
**************
These aren't demons, so much as creatures investing with demonic influence.

Gargoyle - This is a statue that has been imbued with demonic power. Its abilities depend upon the form of the statue, but all are damage resistant.

Imp - An imp is a demonic creature crafted from a human corpse by an evil wizard. These demons are used by evil wizards to perform dark acts. They're weak, but they're the only kind of demon commonly found outside of Hell.

Lava Toadal - Lava toadals are toadals that have been altered to live in lava rather than water. Cold and water magic inflicts extra damage against them, but they are immune to fire attacks.

Piranha Vulture - A piranha vulture is a cross between piranhas and vultures that has been "blessed" with demonic influence. Piranha vultures can attack many times in succession, though they inflict relatively little damage for a demon. They travel in flocks and attack anything that moves. They reproduce by lying eggs.

Toadal - These are giant armored toads that are used as mounts. They are living creatures that lay eggs underwater. They are highly valued for their loyalty, which is largely a result of their complete lack of intelligence. Some toadals are poisonous.

Half-angels
***********
Cyclops - A cyclops is a one-eyed nephilim. Cyclops don't have very accurate attacks, but they attack more often. Though smaller than nephilim, they are even more resistant to damage. Cyclops are descended from Cain.

Harpies - Harpies are bred from humans and vultures. They're used as scouts, but it's not unusual for them to escape and scavenge carrion to survive. Harpies can reproduce with either humans or vultures. Harpy-human crossing produces either a harpy or a human, and harpy-vulture crossing produces either a harpy or a giant vulture.

Nephilim - Nephilim are the offspring of angels and humans. They are exceptionally large humans with strong bones (damage resistance) and tough skin (fire resistance).

Half-demons
***********
Cambion - A cambion is a living human that is the son of a human mother and an incubus father (using human semen). Cambion are simply humans that develop demonic traits during puberty. They often tend towards evil, partly due to their nature and partly due to the fact that they are often condemned by humans.

Jackalron - A humanoid jackal. These creatures are not demons but are actually a living cross between man and jackal. They roam the earth purchasing slaves to bring to Hell's breeding pits. Some of the more enterprising jackalrons have networks of human slavers at their command.

Humans
******
Crusader - Human warriors chosen by angels. Some serve as guards of holy places while others travel the world, righting wrongs. Crusaders have special abilities making them effective against demons and undead. (Crusaders don't have healing magic.) They must take a vow of chastity.

Healer - Healers are humans invested with the power to heal.

Lith - Lith are highly trained female soldiers who worship Lilith. They try to inflict critical injuries rather than simply causing as much damage as possible. The lith have developed some form of magic that allows them to produce offspring in a female-female relationship.

Necromancer - A necromancer is a human wizard who can animate the dead. The most powerful necromancers eventually become nizu.

Pygmy - Pygmies are merely a diminutive species of humans. They are about half the size of normal humans.

Minions of Abaddon (a.k.a. War Demons) (Wrath)
******************
These demons were designed specifically to fight against Heaven.

Alpha Demon - This was the first attempt to create an ultimate killer with the least amount of materials. Alphas are large spiked balls that simply roll over their enemies to inflict damage. They have a hundred eyes, evenly spaced over their bodies. When killed, alphas explode into a fireball, possibly killing their murderers. Though the lack of limbs allows them to be constructed more easily, it limits their potential uses.

Beta Demon - This was the second attempt at an efficient war demon. Beta demons are humanoid demons with large muscular arms and torsos but small legs and heads. They have no mouths and are unable to communicate, but can understand speech. They don't have the raw killing power of alpha demons, but are more versatile than alpha demons. Beta demons are absolutely obedient to their superiors but can't act without orders.

Gamma Demon - This was the third attempt at an efficient war demon. Unlike the previous demons, gamma demons are physically weak, but magically very powerful. They have no arms or legs - they are just winged heads. Gamma demons can shoot fire from their eyes and cause paralyzing fear with their shrieks.

Delta Demon - This was the fourth attempt at an efficient war demon. They are essentially an "improvement" upon gamma demons, though they seem very different. Delta demons are emaciated flying demons with 6 arms and 2 wings. They have 2 eyes: one on the chest and one on the back. They have no heads or mouths and communicate telepathically. Delta demons absorb any magic cast at them, regaining HP and SP. Though physically weak, their 6 arms make them reasonably good fighters, but their advanced magical abilities are what truly make them dangerous. Delta demons turned out to be prohibitively expensive to create, so their design was discontinued. The existing delta demons used their magical capabilities to escape the control of their designers. Their current whereabouts are unknown.

Epsilon Demon - This was the fifth attempt at an efficient war demon. Previous war demons were optimized either physical or magical strength. Epsilon demons were optimized for speed. These demons have 2 spiked arms that stretch to attack enemies that are farther away. They also have 2 regular arms for handling objects. They have small wings, but they can fly anyways due to the lightness of their bodies. Epsilon demons don't take as many hits to kill as other powerful demons, but they're very difficult to hit. The move with supernatural speed and frequently attack many times per turn.

Zeta Demons - This was the sixth attempt at an efficient war demon. Zeta demons are fat red demons with stubby arms and legs. They are usually bald and drool profusely. Zeta demons are almost impossible to kill. They regenerate quickly and have a seemingly unlimited supply of health. Unlike other demons, zeta demons are not vulnerable to purification magic. Instead of damaging them, purification magic heals zeta demons. Zeta demons attack by sending a ball of death magic from their hands. Every time a zeta demon is wounded, an imp is created from its blood.

Drake - A drake is a winged lizard. Each drake can breath one of the following types of breath at their enemies: cold, fire, lightning, or plague. The type of drake also determines the color of the drake and what element the drake is weak against. Drakes were designed as the final, most powerful war demons. Their scales make them hard to kill, and their breath weapons make them good fighters.

Wyvern - A wyvern is an older and larger drake. Wyverns can use all the different kinds of drake breath weapons and aren't weak against any element.

Minions of Belphegor (Sloth)
********************
Devil - Devils are often thought to be the rulers of Hell, though they aren't (some devils may be demon lords, but the fallen angels are the true rulers). Devils are red humanoids with cloven feet, forked tails, forked tongues, and horns. They have powerful fire magic. These creatures are the demons who are summoned to Earth by mortals. They prefer to use guile and treachery to trick mortals into evil bargains but will kill as necessary. Devils have been known to go so far as to grant wishes or serve humans to acquire souls.

Minions of Lucifer (Pride)
******************
Demon Lith - Lith are highly trained female soldiers who fight without weapons. Lucifer made his own "superior" version. Demon lith are living human females but each have 4 arms and 4 breasts. Demon lith are made by cutting apart two living Lith and combining the necessary parts into one creature. When attacking with all 4 arms, they can inflict massive injuries with their lith abilities. Demon lith are among the fiercest combatants in Hell because of the penalties for their failure. Failures are bred with males the breeding pits. Successful demon lith are given harems of females with whom they can mate - this is much preferable to them.

Gohlah - The gohlah is what remains of the lith who was cut apart to donate parts for a demon lith. These wretched creatures are missing their arms, breasts, and spines. They can only drag themselves along the ground and are relatively harmless. Some demon lith keep their own gohlahs as pets.

Izu - These are humans who were "improved" by nizu wizards before they became nizu. They have leathery blue skin, but aren't midgets like the nizu. They are excellent fighters, but have no magical abilities. Izu can mate with humans. The offspring is an izu, though it starts out weaker than its parent.

Nizu - These demons were once wizards who harnessed demonic power to improve their bodies. They eventually became twisted by demonic energy and shriveled into oddly colored midgets. They often have some special additions, such as wings, claws, tails, or horns. Nizu retain the magical abilities they had in life. The nizu were cast into Hell along with the fallen angels. Nizu are sterile.

Minions of Samael (Angel of Death)
*****************
Ouru - Ourus are part-human and part-snake. They are living humans who worshipped and were "blessed" by Samael. There are several different tiers of ouru with varying snake parts. Some can almost pass as human with only minor changes (i.e. a forked tongue), while others are humanoid snakes. Generally, the more snake-like an ouru is, the more powerful they are. Some ouru have powerful stone-based magic.

Skeleton (undead)

Zombie (undead)

Miscellaneous
*************
Lost One - This is a human who was twisted by demonic power that failed. These wretched creatures are vaguely humanoid but are starved and unhealthy. Lost ones are blind, but they can sense their surroundings somehow.

Very interesting. I like the premise.

What about the main characters? What is going on between these factions?

At this point, I just have sort of a vague outline. The game is loosely divided into episodes. The main character is an angel named Rael.

In the first episode, the game centers around the Grigori, the angels who mated with humans and had giants for children. The PC is one of the lower ranking Grigori, though he's a "good" Grigori. None of the individual Grigori are actually listed above, though the Nephilim and Cyclops are their children. The Grigori themselves are various low-ranking angels.

During this episode, the PC will be performing quests to maintain the Grigorian Empire. The first main set of quests will involve a new breed of animal that people have been raising as pets. These creatures turn out to be from Hell, and the mutate into imps. This reveals that the fallen angels have a presence on Earth, and you must try to deal with this. The Grigori leaders bargain with the fallen angels, though they keep this secret.

During the first episode, you must find a wife and convince her to marry you. Or you may choose to remain chaste and join a group of human crusaders (or possibly some kind of monks or something).

In the second episode, the world expands to include other nations beyond the Grigorian Empire. You have to go to places like the land of Nod (where the descendants of Cain live).

In this episode, you learn that the Grigori aren't serving God's will, and you must choose between remaining with the Grigori, returning to God's service, or siding with a sect of good Caanites. Throughout the game, those are basically your 4 options. The choices you make throughout the game will bring you closer to your ultimate sect. As you approach the end of the game, your previous choices will have limitted you.

There's no way to join the fallen angels, though you may be with them at the very end of the game if you side with Grigori.

You discover a few things: Abaddon has been freed from his prison and is wreaking havoc. Faydor, the youngest son of Cain (with Lilith), is the leader of a rebel sect within the Caanites (this sect is good). You gain the ability to speak with God directly through prayer if you make appropriate penance for being a member of the Grigori.

There should be a conflict with Lilith in the second episode, and Abaddon should make a brief appearance. There must also be some kind of demonic plot, though I'm not sure what it will be at this point.

The second episode centers upon exploring the world and joining one of these sects.

At the beginning of the third episode, the archangels announce that the world is going to be flooded to destroy the Grigori. Each sect except the fallen angels starts building a boat. You have to destroy one boat and protect at least one (but can protect two). The fallen angels want you to destroy all of them except the boats of the Grigori.

Probably in the third episode, the nizu and izu (as well as other demon followers) who are still on Earth will be revealed. They will be the main antagonists in this episode, even if you are working with the fallen angels. There is no peace among demons - they all war upon eachother constantly.

During the third episode, Faydor makes a pact with Abaddon to try to save his people, but it backfires.

The fallen angels have a device called the "Sin Collector" that has finally gathered enough sins that they manage to pull a city into Hell. And they can enter Earth through the hole (it's a magical hole, not a physical one, so Hell doesn't flood). You don't discover this until the end of the fourth episode though.

In the fourth episode, the flood is over. The people on whichever boats you saved are there to rebuild society (there's more people left than just Noah and his sons and daughters). Unless you protected the Grigori boat, they have take shelter in Hell.

The armies of Hell are invading while society is weak. This features Abaddon's war demons as well as some others. There are still a few nephilim and cyclops left who stood on the highest mountains. Some of the Earth-based demons can survive underwater. Basically, it's a big fight against Hell.

During the fourth episode, angels are capturing the vices and sealing them up in a jar (Pandora's Jar - just to open up the possibility of a "Greek" sequel). You help in this a little. In any case, Abaddon isn't captured.

The fifth episode will involve Rael entering Hell to stop the fallen angels' diabolical plot. They've raided Sheol and stolen the souls of the dead. They've attacked Earth and stolen a city of the living.

The fourth and fifth episodes may be combined into one, depending upon the amount of material.

In the end, you will have to fight Abaddon. You will also choose between some of the factions in Hell. The quests you perform will determine the new rulers of Hell (or maintain Lucifer as the ruler of Hell).

After reading that, all I can do is smile. Smile

I'll be discussing why in another thread.

I still haven't actually started it yet. Puzzle Carnival, the game I'm working on now, still isn't done because I did very little work on it last month. The pathetic thing is that the actual gameplay is done; it's just the various win game screens and instruction screens, etc. that need to be done.

And, right now, I'm making some changes to the website. I imagine Puzzle Carnival will go into beta testing in February. By then, I should be pretty far along at typing up a design document and storyline for Chronicles of Rael. The actual game might not even get finished by the end of next year.

I've been thinking about the game alot though. In fact, I've been writing myself little notes about Chronicles of Rael when I should have been programming Puzzle Carnival.

I figure that the world map will allow you to fly around and visit different buildings. I think that when you enter buildings, you'll just be able to move a room at a time (like the game Fast Crawl). It doesn't seem reasonable to ask for enough art resources to have regular tile-based maps and the tiles for the world map (not to mention the characters in combat).

So far as equipment is concerned, all characters will have a weapon and a suit of armor. Additionally, they will have several magic beads that have variable effects.

When you kill a demon or other monster, there is a chance that they will turn into a magic bead. I don't know what the logic behind this will be. Maybe demons have beads for hearts.

Other than that, there will be the standard one-use items.

Different kinds of characters will develop in different ways. Angels will gain an "Aspect" when they gain a level. These Aspects are basically individual levels of a character class with much more variety.

Humans will gain levels and Aspects, but they will only be able to gain non-magical Aspects. They will have to equip magical scrolls and books instead of beads if they want to use magic.

Djinn will have a limited number of abilities that change as they gain levels. Djinn might be left out of the game.

Other characters won't gain levels per se. Zombies and demons will eat magic beads to gain some of the abilities from the bead. Golems will be upgraded to make them stronger.

The player's party will contain 6 characters, though you may have more characters that you can switch in and out of your party.

Combat will be a little disappointing. It will be pretty much like Final Fantasy with a bit more strategy. There will be no movement, which is the main thing I would add to the game if I had infinite art resources.

I plan to separate experience points into 3 different types (adventure, combat, and sex) so that you gain different kinds of levels. Gaining an "adventure" level improves your noncombat skills. Gaining a "sex" level improves either sexual skills or grants witchcraft spells. NPCs only gain combat levels, though they each have a noncombat skill that they can help you with.

I'm thinking it would be a good idea to think about a story for the puzzle game. Really, I do. On the other hand, I know that you don't want to make puzzle games, but RPGs.

Maybe you could put the puzzle game in the context of Chronicles of Rael, like cast it as a something having to do with the CoR world.

Have you finished the demo yet for the puzzler?

Oh BTW, my gf loves puzzle games. She could tell you pretty quickly whether or not it's fun.

There's a story, but it's a very limited one. An evil magician cursed your circus, so you have to do various puzzles to get through your circus's world tour.

There's also a demo, though I haven't linked to it from the site. It's at http://www.orbitalcows.com/downloads/puzzlecarnivaldemosetup.exe .

However, the intro screen displays the intro for Nanotron. There's no intro art for Puzzle Carnival yet. I was tampering with the way the intro screen works and used temporary art. As it is, the intro screen is even worse than it was before. It's in kind of a transitional stage - I hope for it to be much improved once I finally make another change.

Also, the instructions aren't written and you can't create or delete users. Other than that it works. The win level screen will be changed and some of the widgets will be altered. The basic gameplay is done, though we haven't gotten feedback from anyone yet.

If you or your girlfriend would like to try it out, that's great. Just be aware that it's not exactly polished at this point.

It may be a few weeks before I have time to work on Puzzle Carnival again. It's aggravating that we have a game with the actual gameplay done that isn't worth playing because of the secondary screens being screwed up.

Hmm... that's interesting. What is the motivation of the magician? Do you learn more about him and his relationship to the player between puzzles?

Downloading the game now.

I think the magician was fired by the circus. I don't remember exactly any more.

This story was the artist's idea. Mine was something about reassembling the engine of a spaceship.

In either case, the story has nothing to do with the gameplay. It's just kind of filler that will be included in the intro screen.

The magician was fired on an intergalactic circus cruiser. In vengence he has disassembled the ship's engine and scattered the parts throughout the ship. Now you must search the ship, solving puzzles to pass each room. And you must hurry... because the ship is on a collision course with the sun.
